Title: Reinforcemet Learning Parallelization applied to medical diagnosis
Speaker: Bill Jordan Tanekeu
Date: Wednesday, 12 November 2025
Time: 16:00-17:00 (GMT +2)

Abstract: The parallelization of reinforcement learning applied to medical diagnosis is based on an observation: despite limited computational resources, it is possible to leverage their capacity to perform tasks in parallel to accelerate model training. By launching multiple simulated environments or agents simultaneously, even on low-power machines, the collection of experiences and the speed of convergence are maximized. This strategy makes the regular updating of an intelligent medical assistant feasible, while meeting the reliability and responsiveness requirements inherent to the clinical field.

Bio: Bill Tanekeu is a young Cameroonian graduate, 22 years old. He earned a scientific baccalaureate in 2019 in his hometown of Manjo, on the Cameroonian littoral, before moving to Yaoundé to continue his university studies in computer science. After a notable academic journey, he graduated at the top of his class with a master's degree in data science in April 2025. His research focused on parallel reinforcement learning, with a medical diagnosis application. In his work, he developed new parallelization methods that significantly reduced the training time for these models. His work led to a scientific article that is currently being submitted to an international journal.
Currently, Bill is focusing his research on the energy efficiency of algorithms. His goal is to design solutions that consume less energy, a crucial issue given the energy scarcity in Africa and its environmental impact. In addition to his research, he is a mentor at the Association for Technological Research and Innovation for Development (ARITED), where he supervises innovative projects.
