Shape the Future of African Research: Image Analyst Position

The University of Cape Town's Africa Microscopy Initiative (AMI) is seeking an Image Analyst to join our open science initiative supporting microscopy-based research across Africa.
The Opportunity
Work with researchers continent-wide developing image analysis strategies for critical biomedical research including tuberculosis infection and drug discovery. You'll build comprehensive analysis pipelines, provide technical expertise, and help train the next generation of African researchers.
What We're Looking For
PhD required in:
- Life sciences with quantitative microscopy experience, OR
- Physics/engineering with fluorescence microscopy expertise, OR
- Data science/computer science with biological image analysis experience
Plus: South African citizenship or current SA work visa
Advantageous: Experience with Fiji/ImageJ, Python, AI/ML applications in biological imaging, and collaborative research environments.

Contract: 12 months, R65,402 - R76,944 monthly (experience dependent)
Location: UCT Institute of Infectious Disease & Molecular Medicine
Start date: September 1, 2025 (negotiable)
